Davido performed in Rotterdam – Afro Pop is growing
When the news hit that Davido was going to perform once again in The Netherlands via his twitter, it was another sign that the Afro Pop industry is growing and growing.

It was not the first time Davido visited the Netherlands. In 2013 he had a small European tour and visited Club DNA in Amsterdam. This time he would visit Club Blu in Rotterdam, on the 4th of June. And this time, the Dansiyo team was there to witness it all!
Road to the performance
The announcement drew immediate media attention, from big entertainment websites such as Pulse.ng. It’s sadly still uncommon for African Afro Pop / Afrobeats artists to perform in western countries. That being said, we do notice an increase. In the Netherlands, where we are based, we had the pleasure to already witness both Wizkid and P-Square in 2016. Who knows who else is around the corner!
Davido was planning to make the trip worthwhile, as we can see on his Instagram account. He visited Paris, France and it looks like he didn’t leave empty handed. A beautiful watch is shown on the second picture.
Davido continued to Rotterdam, where he prepared for the big night. Below he is shown with a part of the Rotterdam skyline.
Time for the show. The location was the same as where P-Square performed before; Club Blu. This venue is proving to be extremely active on getting African Afro Pop artists in and enabling them to showcase their tunes. The place was packed long before Davido came on stage. The crowd was dancing to mostly Afro House music. Also Hip Hop, R&B and Afro Pop tracks were played.
DJ Henry X
One of the warm-up DJ’s was Amsterdam-based Ghanaian DJ Henry X. During his set, he announced his new collaboration with Wizkid called ‘Like This’ and immediately played the track. The crowd went wild and the warming-up was complete. Other acts of the night were Renato Xtrova, Breyth and Cincity.
Davido started his performance with the energetic ‘Damu Duro’, one of his first successful singles. It immediately became clear the crowd was very familiar with his songs, as they sang along with every word.
The smartphones were working hard to capture Davido and the ground was shaking because of the crowd dancing.
Davido played all his major hits and the crowd knew all of them. This showed again in the next track he played; ‘Gobe’:
Besides his own tracks, he also played several collabo’s he featured on, such as Runtown‘s ‘Gallardo’:
Davido blew Club Blu away. It’s clear he has many fans in the Netherlands, who were thrilled to be able to see him live. Even though the night was not just about Davido, as soon as he left the stage, a large chunk of the crowd left the building.
